Chocolate
- the food of love!
Christopher
Columbus is said to have brought chocolate back to
Europe after he visited South America in about 1500
but it only reached Britain in the 17 th Century.
At that time it was made into a drink solely for the
wealthy because of high import duties.
The
British are second only to the Swiss when it comes
to chocolate consumption
The debate over the quality of chocolate focuses on
the proportion of cocoa solids in each bar with continental
plain chocolate commonly containing 70% compared to
around 35% in the British version.
